This question came up recently and we thought it may help others to know this.
The question is, can you purchase Windows licenses under an academic Microsoft Open License Programme agreement (which are upgrade-only licenses) and use that to install Windows alongside Mac OS on an Apple computer?
The answer is - yes you can, if you purchase Software Assurance with your Windows licenses. So a Windows Pro Upgrade with SA can be used on Apple Mac hardware in conjunction with Mac OS - whether using Boot Camp or a virtualisation platform like Parallels.
If, however, you're installing Windows as the only OS on the hardware you can then do without Software Assurance and just purchase Windows Pro.
